Disclaimer

The more this pregnancy progresses, the less motivation I seem to have for photography and/or blogging. So, consider this notice served... expect to see less of me over the next few months. I will still post at least a few times a week, but it's likely not going to be every weekday like it is now.

And because posts are better with pictures (obviously!), here's Noodle - the reason for all this trouble :) ...

iheartfaces - Week 13 - Dramatic B & W

I've been waiting for the right week to enter this photo... and it's finally arrived! Week 13 at iheartfaces is all about "Dramatic B&W". I think this image of Tadpole fits the bill perfectly! It's a few months old now, but it's in my top 5 fave's of my little boy. I can't put my finger on what exactly makes it dramatic, but I do know that color does the image no justice whatsoever... somehow the b&w better captures his innocence.

Flashback Friday - First Photo

I was talking with Winnie yesterday and we somehow got on the topic of BRAND newborn babies... and how most of them look sorta like aliens and have a face that only their parents could love. haha. I told her that, of course, when my little Tadpole arrived he was the cutest little thing ever and didn't look like an alien at all! Which I assume is what most parents say. haha. I told her I'd share his very first photo on my blog as today's flashback... I've converted it to black&white because the purple-alien-skin might be a bit too frigthening for the masses ;)

Ahhh... my shrieking, perfect, purple little Tadpole.... just minutes old... and still just as cute as I remember thru my teary-eyed, blurred vision :)

Okay, this is the last of the pictures from our trip to Olympic View last weekend...

Carrying his golf clubs

I took so many pictures when we took Tadpole to Olympic View on Saturday. We spent a little time at the driving range, and then the putting green... but it all started with Tadpole carrying his own golf clubs from the car (you can tell from the less-than-thrilled look on his face that they're still a bit heavy for him)...

iheartfaces - Week 12: Focusing on Angles

The explanation for this weeks iheartfaces contest was taken right from their website: Unusual angles are fun and cool...and they make your photo stand out from the rest of the pack...
A unique angle is what this week is all about.

So, here's my take on a unique angle in a photo...
Mister and I took Tadpole to the driving range and putting green on Saturday. He had such a great time! I took a ton of photos (and I'll post more tomorrow), but here's my "Focusing on Angles" entry for this week:

Flashback Friday

Earlier this week, I found out that our good friends, M&M, are moving "home" to Victoria in a few months. I'm so excited! We've missed them so much since they moved to Penticton in 2008. In honor of the good news, here's a pic of one of the M's with a month old little Tadpole.

SOOC

Last week I posted a Before & After to show the benefits of professional photography and editing in photoshop.
Today is a little different... today I'm posting a completely un-edited sooc image that I took yesterday on my lunch break. I couldn't be happier with this - the exposure is perfect! YAY!
And Spring seems to be making its way thru the clouds. YAY again!

Comparison - Noodle & Slapshot

On a few occasions now, I've had people comment on my "little" belly... to which I reply "WHAT!?" Seriously - I feel HUGE with Noodle. Way bigger than I felt with Slapshot (Tadpole)... and I thought I was big then. Figure the best way to compare is with photos. The 1st is me & Slapshot on the 1st of September (Month 5). The 2nd is me & Noodle on the 1st of March (Month 5).

(Slapshot's due date was January 2nd. Noodle's due date is July 1st.)

iheartfaces - Week 11: Bundled Up

It's time to Bundle Up at iheartfaces this week. We haven't had much winter weather here in Victoria, but we did wake up to snow falling on Friday morning... Tadpole could not have been happier. And as usual, he had to put on his Canada toque and his new hockey Canada scarf (that Papa brought home as a souvenir from the Olympics).

Flashback Friday - Crocodile Tears

Now that the terrible two's have arrived, we see a face similar to this on an almost daily basis... except lately it's quickly followed by a spaz. Fun times. I hope we're nearing the end of it by the time Noodle arrives this summer!

(Don't you just want to pinch those adorable chubby little cheeks!?)

Project 2010 - Six Pack

This image brings to mind an old Black Flag song...

Thirty-five dollars and a six pack to my name
Six-pack!
Spent the rest on beer so who's to blame
Six-pack!
They say I'm f****d up all the time
Six Pack!
What they do is a waste of time
Six pack!
I know it'll be okay
I get a six pack in me, alright!

My girlfriend asks me which one I like better
Six pack!
I hope the answer won't upset her
Six pack!
I was born with a bottle in my mouth
Six Pack!
Now I got a six so I'll never run out
Six Pack!

I know it'll be okay
I got a six pack in me alright!

Thirty-five dollars and a six pack to my name
Six-pack!
Spent the rest on beer so who's to blame
Six-pack!
They say I'm f****d up all the time
Six Pack!

Six pack!

Six pack!
Six pack!
Six pack!

My Inspiration

I've been in bed with a miserable cold since Sunday... I tell ya, the only thing worse than a miserable cold, is having one when you're pregnant and you can't take any medicine! Luckily Mister's been home the last 2 days so he's been able to take full Tadpole duty while I sleep and sleep and sleep.

It's days like this though, that remind me to be thankful for what I have, and who I chose to share my life with. I don't know what on earth I'd do without Mister - and because of him, we have our little Tadpole - who is my daily source of inspiration... no matter how miserable I feel.

iheartfaces - Week 10: Jump for Joy

It's week 10 of year 2 at iheartfaces. This week's theme is "Jump for Joy". I love this image of the Tadpole from last summer... he was just learning how to actually jump. Usually he didn't actually get any air, but he tried SO HARD. The look of concentration on his face and his tiny heels just up off the ground... *sigh* I just love my boy.

Flashback Friday - Tadpole & LG

It was LG's birthday yesterday... his 19th birthday. Seriously? He's legal? Oh man... I'm gettin too old for this!

In honor of his big day, here's a flashback to last Halloween... Tadpole as a bat, and LG as Dragonball Z...

Happy Birthday LG!

Before & After

At Becker's workshop in January, one of the things he talked about was how to help your clients understand what they're paying for. Sure, they've hired you to take some photos for them... but do they really understand just what that means? A professional photo is more than just the click of a shutter - to make it perfect, there's also post-processing involved.

A common misconception is that Photoshop is used to "fix" bad images and make them good... but really, professional photographers use Photoshop to make good images better.

Becker suggested that one of the best ways to demonstrate this, is to post before & after images on your website or blog.

I had originally been opposed to sharing SOOC (straight out of camera) photos because they don't depict what I consider to be my "best" work. But what Becker said made sense. How can people really get it unless they can see the SOOC, and then what a little post-processing can do.

So, here we go... My first Before (sooc) & After (photoshopped) post...

And there you have it. Just a teeny bit of insight into why you pay more when you hire a professional... the time spent with you at your portrait session is only just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the work/effort put into the making of your images.

iheartfaces - Week 9: Hilarious Outtakes

This week at iheartfaces, we get to enter FIVE photos... 5 "Hilarious Outtakes"... I can't wait to see what everyone else posts! In the meantime, here are my entries, each with a quick explanation.

I'm not sure this one even really needs an explanation... a baby Tadpole... spitting up with some CRAZY timing JUST as the camera clicked...

Attempting to take some portraits of the Tadpole standing with his golf clubs... Little dude pulled them right over, you can see his poor flailing hand, still in motion...

Family portrait session at the park... Happy smiling siblings... until the click of the camera... baby decided to let us know that she was done - as her big brother and sister give each other the "here we go again" look...

I warned Unk that Tadpole needed a diaper on after his tub... but Unk just wanted some playtime with a nephew that had just learned how to coo and smile... and then Unk got pee'd on...

A baby shower at work... My co-worker was having fun copying the faces that baby was making... but of course, as soon as the camera clicked, baby stopped making faces and my co-worker didn't...
