I had no trouble choosing this one. Since the minute I saw it on my screen, I knew that this was my new personal favorite image. I feel like I improved quite a bit in 2010, and I think this is just one of a handful of portraits that I'm thrilled to have added to my portfolio.

Ah, my little Worm. I just posted this one a few days ago, but it fits this weeks iheartfaces theme so well that I had to show it off again. This is SOOO his personality. He's so serious. An old man trapped in a baby body. If you look closely, you'll see that he's showing me just what he thinks of having the camera shoved in his face again (he's flipping me the bird!).

I love my boys! And I love most of Tadpole's portraits from this past year too... but this one of Worm really takes the cake.

You just never know what you're going to get when you try to photograph siblings... and my own boys were no exception to the rule.

Tadpole LOVES his baby brother, but the feeling isn't always mutual. Worm likes to watch his big brother from a distance, but isn't always happy with the affection that's showered upon him.

Santa

I still can't believe that Christmas is less than a week away!
Thankfully, other than 3 or 4 quick gifts to wrap, we're all ready.

One of the first few things we do to get into the spirit, is visit Santa at the mall and have a photo taken.
On the first Saturday in December we packed the boys in to Betty and met Winnie in the lineup to watch the duders with the Big man.

And I've only just realized that I didn't post last years Santa photo, so here it is too.

The Festival if Trees is on at the Empress hotel right now. And last week I met there, with Cam, Christina, and their little Cutie-Pie daughter, Olivia.
It's Olivia's first Christmas this year, and they wanted some family photos for the occasion.
Like most babies her age, Olivia wasn't sure what to make of me and my camera, but she warmed up and gave me some precious smiles.

When I met him on his birthday, I couldn't get over all of his hair. Tadpole kept giving him little kisses on the head. So cute :)
When I met him again on his 11th day, I got to see his own Big Brother interact with him. He's still reeling a bit from the HUGE changes to his life, but he's starting to settle in - and has even helped his Mommy to "burt" his new baby :)

No images of the boys together today though. Instead, just these two of the newest member of the Loster family.

If you've seen the movie X2, then this might look familiar to you - my entry is from last months family session at Hatley Castle, which was used in the filming of the X-Men Sequel.

Xmas Tree Hunt - 2010

It's one of my favorite Christmas traditions, our annual tree hunt!
We pack into Betty and drive up to Grumpy & Granny's for a nice big breakfast. Then it's off to the tree farm to tag our tree.
We've braved all kinds of weather: sun, rain, gale-force winds... But this year was the best - SNOW!!!
Little Worm's first Xmas is going to be memorable for more reason than one :)

Starbucks Xmas drinks are out, carols are playing in the stores, there's snow on the ground outside, and Santa is in the Mall... I love this time of year.

And it gets even better when you get to take photos of an adorable little girl for her 1st Christmas!

This little sweetheart was born the day before my birthday. I told her Mommy that she was going to be my Worm's future wife :)

Last week we hung out for a few hours to take some photos of her in her first Christmas dress (her Mommy and her Grandma actually bought the dress before she was even born).

We threw in some fun Xmas props for good measure, Grandpa was there to help, and we got some great results.

Seriously - how CUTE is she!?

This one is my favorite... she's such a doll!

Movember

It's that time of year again... But likely not the time of year that you're thinking - especially as we're looking at the window at snow this morning.

The time I'm talking about, is good ol' Movember. When men all across the country, grow (or attempt to grow) some of the most fantastical, dirty, greasy moustachios you've ever seen. What a fun and hilarious way to raise money and awareness for a great charity: Prostate Cancer Canada.

While trolling the web yesterday, I noticed that the team I was making my donation to, didn't have any photos posted - and I was their first donation. No good at all... they have potential to rake in some decent coin, so I volunteered my services and headed down to the Bear Mtn Arena last night for some quick pre-game headshots of the Cowichan Capitals Team.

If you haven't already, please PLEASE consider donating to this incredible cause. If you'd like to donate to the Capitals Movember team, here's the link (the pictures haven't been updated yet, which is why I've posted them here for all to see). If there's another team you'd prefer to donate to, that's great too... it all goes to the same place, and that's all that really matters.

They're back!

I love this family. Not only do the Daddy and I go waaaay back (our Mom's were friends when they were pregnant with us - we were born less than a month apart), and not only was I at the hospital when Sunshine was born SEVEN years ago (I'm still in denial that she could possibly be that old), but they were my first official photography clients last year.

I was really happy to get to see them all for another photo session last weekend.

I caught a break from the rain once again, and we met at Royal Roads in an attempt to get a nice family portrait, one of just the kids, one of the Parents, and one of each kiddo individually. No easy feat, but we pulled it off.

I could not have been more excited when Leanne booked me to do some family maternity portraits. I've known her for years now, and I can't help but smile just thinking about how happy it makes me to see her as a wife and Mommy.

Baby #2 was due on Remembrance day, but as of last night (when I last heard from Leanne), Poet has yet to come meet us. They're in the hospital, ready & waiting, so I'm hoping that this post will be the little boost that baby needs :)

We started the session off in their living room, and then did some outside photos at Coast Collective - which was very fitting, since it's also where Chad & Leanne had their wedding portraits taken.

There are far too many great images for me to choose favorites. I kind of had to close my eyes and pick a few, because there was no way I could decide otherwise.

Leanne, you are one hot Mommy... I can't wait to meet your new little baby!! He or She will be a perfect addition to the happy family you and Chad have created. xo

It's Remembrance Day today.

What better day to share some pictures taken at an old Military Academy.

I first met this Mom at Colwood Creek Park a few months ago, while I was doing a family portrait session. She e-mailed me a little while later to schedule a session for her own family.

We headed to Royal Roads few weeks ago, during a brief break in the rainy weather, and captured some images of the good looking gang.

I just love living on Vancouver Island. How many other places are there where you can have your family photographed in front of such a beautiful old castle?

The boys have such expressive eyes!

The colors are so pretty at this time of year.

Pumpkin Patch

Well, better late than never. Halloween was over a week ago, but I'm just getting around to getting all of our photos edited and posted.

I shared one yesterday, and today I get to share a few more from our annual visit to the Pumpkin Patch. We managed to just barely avoid the rain, and Tadpole had a great time on our tractor hay ride out to the patch to choose his pumpkin. Little Worm was fairly indifferent and slept in the snuglee for most of the outing, only waking up on our ride back out of the patch.

Tomorrow... Halloween pictures! Each of the boys had two costumes - and they were just too cute for words. Not that I'm biased or anything.

The contest theme for this week is Orange. Which is perfect timing since I just managed to finish up on my client sessions and spend some time editing our family Halloween pictures.One of our annual traditions, is a trip to the Pumpkin Patch at Galey Farms. We've been going since Tadpole's first Halloween, and this was the first year that he's actually really enjoyed himself. Unk and Winnie came with us, and we all had a great time. Part of the contest rules state that we're only allowed to enter one photo, so Mister helped me choose this one.

My best friend, Jolene, has a pretty large family with a lot of cousins.

One of those cousins, Becky, grew up with us in Sooke, moved to Alberta when Jo did, but recently moved back home again. When Becky's birthday rolled around a little while ago, Jolene decided to give her a gift certificate for a portrait session. Hooray!

A few weeks ago I drove out to the family farm in Sooke and spent some time with Becky & Shane's adorable kids. The two of them have the most intense blue eyes I'd ever seen. Awesome.

The day after Torie & Mike's wedding, I spent the afternoon in Beacon Hill Park with some of our best friends. It was a bit of a combination of a family session and an engagement session because after seven years and a cutie-pie daugther together, this happy couple is finally tying the knot - and I can't wait until their wedding next September!

On with the images! Again, liking the black & white better, but posting some colour too because I know that a lot of you like colour as much as I like b&w.

A little while ago, I was contacted by the Mom of one of my best-friends from high-school. She had a challenge for me: get a Christmas portrait of all of her grandkids, TOGETHER. No small feat, considering they're a group of 4 adorably independent kids.

Our next door neighbors contacted me a while ago and asked if we could do a family portrait session in the park behind our house. Of course, I obliged. How could I resist such a great family and such adorable little boys! I'll be the first to admit, I have a soft-spot for brothers now that I have 2 boys of my own.

Today we'll stick with the family images, and I'm going to save tomorrow's post to be dedicated just to the boys.

Check out this great looking family...

Brad is in the Military, and as Susan explained to me on the day of our session, yellow flowers are a symbol of the Military Wife. They're also the color that they used for their wedding. Brad has since been deployed, and they'll have to celebrate their 10th anniversary apart, so it was important for them to use yellow flowers in a few of their photos before he left.

I'm so glad that you're happy with your images. It was my pleasure!

Yesterday was the sneak-peek, today is the full post :)

My brother introduced me to them, and I've known this couple for a few years now. Despite the fact that we used to only live a few minutes apart, this was my first time seeing them since they welcomed Audrey, their 8 month old baby girl.

On Saturday, Colleen, Ben & baby Audrey met me at Royal Roads for some fun family portraits. The forecast called for rain, but despite the clouds, it was warm and sunny!

At first Audrey wasn't too sure about the crazy lady with the black box stuck to her face, but she warmed up to me and I think we got some good stuff.

Ben & Colleen, it was so great to see you again - I'm thrilled to have finally met your adorable little girl! On with the photos...

I was so torn yesterday... do I post a Worm smirk? Or a Tadpole smirk?

In the end, Worm won out, and I'm still not sure if I made the right decision.

That being said, today is Tadpole's turn, even if I can't enter it in the iheartfaces contest.

One Sunday morning, Mister was doing some work outside. Tadpole, being the Daddy's boy that he is, had to be at Mister's heels.

Still in his pajammy's, here's my adorable little boy... wearing his safety goggles, ear muffs, and holding his Daddy's (unplugged) drill...

iheartfaces - Week 38: Smirk

When I saw the iheartfaces contest theme this week, I was really excited! Little Worm is all about the smirk... but man-oh-man... it's nearly impossible to catch with a camera. WAY more difficult than I had anticipated!

That being said, this image comes pretty darn close to the smirk we see so often. It takes work to get our serious Worm to smile, and it's always preceded by the most adorable little smirk.

Little Worm had his picture taken in a Tonka truck... so Tadpole wanted a turn too. We used his big truck for these few - and for the first time in a long time, he was LOVING posing for the camera.

iheartfaces - Week 37: Vroom, Vroom

The iheartfaces contest theme this week is "Vroom, Vroom". Our images have to contain a vehicle of some kind, in addition to a face.

Since he was born, Mister has wanted me to take a photo of Worm in one of his big brother's Tonka trucks. We gave it a shot on Sunday morning - but Little Worm was feeling less than cooperative. This was the best we could achieve...

He's still pretty darn cute - but then again, I'm biased :)

Tadpole's hockey helmet toque

Worm is sleeping sweetly in his bed. Tadpole is quietly singing to his stuffed animal friends as he wakes up. And I'm lying on the couch feeling sorry for myself, suffering with a doozie of a cold.
While curled up under a blanket, I started going through some photos of Tadpole from earlier this year. I don't think I've posted them yet, so I'll do it today.

Here's Tadpole in Feb (I think). Such a fun kid!

Rocks at the Lake

Last week I posted a photo of Tadpole and Mister, throwing rocks into the lake.
Today's images are from the same time but they're closer up. Tadpole loves going to the water - it's the only time he's allowed to throw rocks.

Eyelashes

From the day he was born, Tadpole has had some CRAZY long eyelashes. He gets more comments about his eyes than any other things all combined.

Worm wasn't born with the same long, dark lashes. But in the last week or so, Mister and I have noticed that they're starting to grow. Which is weird to me. I didn't realize that eyelashes would change.

Anyways, my Dad got a great image of Tadpole's eyelashes when he was about Worm's age, so I knew I had to try to get one of Worm's too.

They're still not as spectacular as his big brother's, but they're more than enough to make a lot of females jealous...

Tadpole was a CRANKY baby. For the first six months of his life, all he did was cry.

Worm, on the other hand, is much less miserable - thank goodness - but he's OH-So-Serious! All.the.time.

This first image shows a bit of a smirk, which we get sometimes, but the second image is much more him.

iheartfaces - Week 35: Photojournalism

For the purposes of this weeks contest, iheartfaces defines photojournalism as "using a picture to tell a story". And for this week, if we prefer it to a single photo, we're allowed to enter a collage of up to 5 images. I opted for the collage.

I had originally intended to take some pictures of Mister and his boys... but when I got out my camera, Tadpole decided to do the same. I couldn't resist this series. I can still hear him telling me "Mummy, you look like Grover!" as he pulled the Sesame Street polaroid from the bottom of his camera.

I still can't quite believe that I've already got these ready to share... this is the quickest I've ever completed proofing a session!

But Cynthia is due really soon and since baby **** could arrive any day, I crossed my fingers that I could get their images to them first.

I shared a sneak-peek on the blog last week, and now that Cynthia & Matt have the rest of their images, I get to share a few more of my favorites...

(I usually prefer b&w images, but there's just something about the color of this one)

(The dogs - seriously, look how cute and well-behaved they are)

(Cynthia brought this book along... it was a gift from her Mom for their baby girl)

(As usual, saving my favorite for last. One of the best things about evening sessions is the potential for silhouettes)

Cynthia & Matt - it was so great meeting you and spending a few hours together. Congrats again and I'm SOOOOO looking forward to meeting your new little doll!!!

iheartfaces - Week 34: Beach Fun

Summer is almost over, and I'm sad to say that we still haven't spent any time at the beach. Luckily Tadpole has been able to get his beach on with other members of the family, so he's not feeling as sun & sand deprived as I am.

This weeks contest theme at iheartfaces is "Beach Fun" and since I don't have any recent images to post, I dug back to a family photo session that I did last winter. It was December, and one of the windiest days of the year - but we stuck it out anyways... and despite the chill factor, this happy family still had a great time. While it lasted. It was COLD and we packed up after about 15mins.

Tadpole vs Worm - Week 1

When Tadpole was born, a friend suggested that for the first year, we take a snapshot on the same day every week to chart the progress of his growth. We chose Wednesdays so that his last photo would fall on his 1st birthday.

Our Little Worm arrived just over 6 weeks ago, and we decided to do the same thing - this time opting for Thursdays.

I've got some catch-up posting to do, so today we'll start with a comparison of my boys at one week old...

It's been a very busy week in the Dey house, with a cranky toddler who's all about testing the boundries, and a fussy newborn who's still adjusting to life "on the outside". So I haven't had much time to process this shoot - but I wanted to tide them over until the rest of their images are ready for viewing...

...Earlier this week, I met up with Cynthia & Matt, to make some portrait magic. Cynthia hasn't had the most pleasant pregnancy, suffering from most of the crummy side-effects of pregnancy, but her and Matt couldn't be more excited to welcome their new baby girl in a few weeks and they wanted some photos to reflect this time in their lives.

They brought their first babies, their dogs, to take part in the session. I gotta say, these were two of the most well-behaved dogs I've ever seen! They even posed for me - too cute!

I came across this website a few months ago when I saw it on a blog that I follow. The products include Wedding and correspondence stationary, but what caught my eye was the "Baby" collection. I was in immediately in love! There are options for customizing your print - and they couldn't be cuter!! I snagged a picture from the Hoot website to show an example of the "Simply Yours" Custom Hoot Print that I've got my eye on.

One of these would look perfect hanging in a nursery, don't you think?
